Manulife Investment Management Limited

Manulife Investment Management (M) Berhad has appointed Manulife Investment Management Limited (“Manulife IM Limited”) as the fund manager for Manulife Shariah Global Environmental Transition Fund. Manulife IM Limited is an indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of Manulife. It was formed by an amalgamation on July 1, 2015 of Manulife owned entities including Manulife Asset Management Limited (formerly named Elliott & Page Limited) and the former Standard Life Mutual Funds Ltd. Elliott and Page Limited was first organized in 1949 in Toronto, Ontario, incorporated on December 28, 1954, and acquired by Manulife in 1996, Manulife IM Limited has been regulated as a Federal corporation since 2015.

Mr. Craig Bethune, CFA (Senior Portfolio Manager, Capital Appreciation) – designated fund manager for Manulife Shariah Global Environmental Transition Fund
Mr. Craig is a member of the capital appreciation team and portfolio manager for the global environmental transition, global resources, global energy and global materials strategies. He also conducts fundamental research on the energy sector for all large cap equity portfolios managed by the team. Prior to joining the firm, he was a vice president and portfolio manager with TD Asset Management, a portfolio manager at Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System, and held research and analyst positions at various sell-side firms. Mr. Craig holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Society Toronto and the CFA Institute. He also holds B.Com degree in Finance and International Business from McGill University, and M.B.A. from University of Toronto.

 

Diana Racanelli, CFA (Senior Portfolio Manager, Capital Appreciation) – designated fund manager for Manulife Shariah Global Environmental Transition Fund
Ms. Diana is a member of the capital appreciation team and portfolio manager for the global environmental transition, global resources, global energy and global materials strategies. She also conducts fundamental research on the materials sector for all large cap equity portfolios managed by the team. Prior to joining the firm, she was a vice president and portfolio manager with TD Asset Management, a vice president and analyst with CIBC Global Asset Management, and held research and analyst positions at AIC Limited, Scotia Capital Markets, and Burns Fry. Ms. Diana holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Society Toronto and the CFA Institute. She also holds a B.A. degree in Economics and English from University of Toronto.

 

 

 

Manulife Investment Management (US) LLC

Manulife Investment Management (M) Berhad has appointed Manulife Investment Management (US) LLC (“Manulife IM (US)”) as the fund manager for Manulife Shariah Global REIT Fund. Manulife IM (US), an indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of Manulife, was organized in 1968 in the state of Delaware and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on August 4, 1992. 

As at 31 October 2024, Manulife IM (US) has assets under management of USD 236.2 billion.

Mr. Joseph P. Marguy, (Managing Director) - designated fund manager for Manulife Shariah Global REIT Fund
Mr. Marguy is a managing director and portfolio manager at Manulife Investment Management (US) LLC. Mr. Marguy is the lead portfolio manager of the Global Real Estate strategy and he is also a member of the capital appreciation team. He provides dedicated research on the real estate sector for the Bank Opportunities and Financial Industries strategies, as well as diversified strategies managed by the capital appreciation team. Earlier in his career, he was an investment analyst with the company’s risk management area, responsible for attribution and risk exposure reports for our investment teams. Mr. Marguy began his career at Chase Global Financial Services.

 

 

Manulife Investment Management (Hong Kong) Limited

Manulife Investment Management (M) Berhad has appointed Manulife Investment Management (Hong Kong) Limited as the Fund Manager for Manulife Investment Greater China Fund, Manulife Shariah China Equity Fund, Manulife Shariah India Equity Fund, Manulife PRS-Growth Fund, Manulife PRS-Moderate Fund, Manulife PRS-Conservative Fund, Manulife Shariah PRS-Growth Fund, Manulife Shariah PRS-Moderate Fund and Manulife Shariah PRS-Conservative Fund.

The function of the Fund Manager is to actively manage the investments of the Funds in accordance to its investment objectives. Manulife Investment Management (Hong Kong) Limited was incorporated in Hong Kong on 21 June 1994 and it commenced operations as an investment manager in June 2000. Manulife Investment Management (Hong Kong) Limited’s ultimate parent company is Manulife Financial Corporation. Manulife Investment Management (Hong Kong) Limited is part of Manulife Investment Management, the asset management arm of Manulife Financial Corporation. Mr. Chay Kai Kong, CFA (Senior Portfolio Manager - Equities) – designated co-fund manager for Manulife Investment Greater China Fund
Mr. Chay Kai Kong is a Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager for Greater China Equities. Based in Hong Kong, he oversees the Greater China equity desk and works closely with investment specialists based across Hong Kong, China and Taiwan to lead management of the firm's Greater China portfolios and strategies.

Mr. Chay Kai Kong is a seasoned investment professional with more than 20 years of investment experience covering Greater China markets, including 17 years as a portfolio manager. His career spans lead manager roles at Reliance Asset Management in Singapore and Standard Life Investments (Asia) in Hong Kong. He has also managed Greater China funds for Pioneer Investments and CMG First State in Singapore. He has a strong performance track record which includes managing top-quartile-performing Greater China funds in his previous roles.

Mr. Chay Kai Kong holds a Bachelor of Accountancy from Nanyang Technological University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder and a member of the Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR).

 

Mr. Wenlin Li, (Director, Equities) – designated fund manager for Manulife Shariah China Equity Fund and Manulife Investment Greater China Fund

Mr. Wenlin Li is based in Hong Kong, Wenlin focuses on enhancing Manulife Investment Management’s stock selection capability in Chinese equities and manages the China A-shares as well as Southbound Stock Connect related portfolios.

Before joining the firm, Mr. Wenlin Li was an associate vice-president at RCM covering the China A-share market with a wide range of sector responsibilities. He also assisted in managing the China A-share equity portfolio. Prior to that, he was with UBS (Asia), where he spent four years on the telecommunications team and one year as lead Internet sector analyst. He previously spent two years at Goldman Sachs (Asia) focusing on consumer and auto sectors.

Mr. Wenlin Li holds a Master of Finance from Peking University and a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of Technology and Science, China.

 

Mr. Marco Giubin, (Senior Portfolio Manager, Equities) – designated fund manager for Manulife Shariah India Equity Fund
Mr. Marco Giubin is based in Hong Kong, Marco is Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager for the company’s income-orientated Asia Pacific equity strategies. He is the company’s Asian high-dividend equity specialist and leads equity analysis for the Australian market. Marco has over 18 years of equity investment experience focusing on Asia Pacific markets. Prior to joining the company, he was head of Asia Pacific equity research for Eight Investment Partners, a Sydney-based boutique investment house. Before this, he was with Mirae Global Investments as senior portfolio Manager for a number of Asia Pacific mandates and served as head of research for a team of 15 equity analysts. Marco holds Bachelor of Business degree with a major in finance and marketing from the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia.

 

Miss Bonnie Sit, (CFA, Senior Investment Analyst, Multi Asset Solutions Team, Asia) – designated fund manager for Manulife PRS-Growth Fund, Manulife PRS-Moderate Fund, Manulife PRS-Conservative Fund, Manulife Shariah PRS-Growth Fund, Manulife Shariah PRS-Moderate Fund and Manulife Shariah PRS-Conservative Fund

Miss Bonnie Sit, CFA, a senior director and senior investment analyst for asset allocation within the Multi-Asset Solutions Team (“MAST”) at Manulife Investment Management (“MIM”).  MAST is tasked with the delivery of cross-asset class investment solutions that include pension and retirement solutions, risk management- and outcome-oriented solutions, and multi-manager portfolios including both public and private assets.  Solutions may be absolute return, peer- or benchmark-relative and are delivered in many formats including mutual fund (including fund-of-fund), pooled, segregated and customized.

MAST designs bespoke solutions on behalf of retail and institutional clients around the world and includes asset allocation, Liability-Driven Investing, Liquid Alternative, Beta Management and OCIO / Fiduciary Solutions for pension plans.  Asset solutions include target risk, target date and a wide array of strategic, tactical and absolute return multi-asset class portfolios that are highly customizable depending on client objectives.

Bonnie has more than 16 years experience in a variety of roles, most recently as investment strategist at the Australian Government Future Fund. Prior to this, she held analyst roles at Medley Capital and Thomas Weisel Partners in the U.S.

Bonnie holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Economics from Wellesley College in the U.S. and is a CFA charterholder.

 

 

AHAM Asset Management Berhad ("AHAM Capital")

 

Manulife Investment Management (M) Berhad appointed AHAM Capital as the Fund Manager for Manulife Investment-HW Flexi Fund, Manulife Investment Shariah Progress Fund and Manulife Investment-HW Shariah Flexi Fund.

AHAM Capital was incorporated in Malaysia on 2 May 1997 under the Companies Act 1965 (now known as Companies Act 2016) and began its operations under the name Hwang-DBS Capital Berhad in 2001. In July 2022, the company was acquired by the CVC Capital Partners Asia V (“CVC”) via Starlight Asset Sdn Bhd – an investment holding vehicle of CVC’s investment. CVC Capital Partners is a leading global private equity and investment advisory firm with approximately US$125 billion of assets under management. The firm became 68.35% owned by CVC Capital Partners Asia V via Starlight Asset Management Berhad, 27% by Nikko Asset Management International Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tokyo-based Nikko Asset Management Co and 4.65% by Starlight Management Company (Jersey) Limited, an investment holding vehicle own by key management personnel. AHAM Capital has more than 20 years’ experience in the fund management industry.

On 19 April 2023, Nikko Asset Management International Limited (“NAMI”), who had a 27% equity interest in AHAM divested its 20% equity stake in AHAM to its Japan parent entity, Nikko Asset Management Co Ltd and the 7% equity stake to Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (“LTAT”). As a result, LTAT became a substantial shareholder of AHAM Capital.

AHAM Capital distributes its funds through various channels as follows:-

(i) In-house/internal sales team;

(ii) IUTA & CUTA (Corporate Unit Trust Advisers); and 

(iii) Unit trust consultants.

AHAM Capital’s head office is located in Kuala Lumpur and has a total of 10 main sales offices located in Peninsular and East Malaysia. The sales offices are in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Putrajaya, Penang, Ipoh, Johor Bharu, Melaka, Kuching, Miri and Kota Kinabalu.

As at 31 October 2024, AHAM Capital has assets under administration of RM 87.4 billion.

Mr. David Loh Chou Yit, Deputy Head of Equity – designated fund manager for Manulife Investment-HW Flexi Fund and Manulife Investment-HW Shariah Flexi Fund

Mr. David Loh joined AHAM Capital in March 2015. He has 11 years of experience in the asset management industry. Prior to joining AHAM Capital, he was the Consumer and Gaming analyst covering 13 stocks on the sell-side at UOB Kay Hian. Prior to that, he had a 3-year stint at Public Mutual Berhad covering multiple sectors across regional markets.

An ACCA Affiliate, Mr. David Loh has also attained the Masters of Accounting & Finance from Manchester Metropolitan University, United Kingdom.
 

Ms. Yee Mei Hui, CFA, Senior Portfolio Manager – designated fund manager for Manulife Investment Shariah Progress Fund

Ms. Yee Mei Hui joined AHAM Capital in May 2014. She brought with her 10 years of investment and 4 years of audit experience. Prior to joining AHAM Capital, Ms. Yee Mei Hui was a senior analyst at HwangDBS Vickers Research and UOB KayHian for 6 and 4 years respectively - specialising in Malaysia property, REITs, cement, power and regional gaming sectors. Mei Hui was also a senior associate in Audit and Assurance department at PwC for 4 years, with exposure to various sectors such as oil & gas, utilities, property, construction, trading and services. She manages a number of portfolios for large institutional clients. 

Ms. Yee Mei Hui is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and also has the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) professional qualification.
